Janice Carolyn Daniels

Janice Carolyn Daniels passed away February 15, 2018 at the age of 79.

Janice was born June 4, 1938 to Theodore and Bell Dora Williams in JoLee , Texas. One of five children, Janice grew up in JoLee and Rogers, Texas. Her father, who enjoyed playing baseball and shared a name with another famous baseball player, passed away during a game when Janice was just a year old. After that, the family moved in with Bell Dora’s parents. Janice grew up picking cotton, and often carried too heavy of a bag for her small body. In fact, her family nicknamed her “Toothpicks” because of her thin legs. In high school, Janice played on the basketball team and was elected Homecoming Queen before graduating from Rogers High School. She loved children and enjoyed taking care of them and her younger cousins. Janice was always a pretty girl with lots of friends. People were drawn to her kind spirit and her bright smile.

Janice met the love of her life when he shot her with a rubber band at the county fair in October 1954. Janice and Milton were married August 29, 1958 at First Baptist Church of Rogers, Texas. They were blessed with two children during their 58-year union before Milton passed away in 2015. They spent a lot of time as a family camping at Lake Somerville. One of Janice’s and Milton’s best vacations was going to Germany with two very special couples. The two were active members of Central Baptist Church. Janice lived out her faith singing in the choir her whole life. She read her Bible daily, even after her illness robbed her of her memory. She enjoyed feeding deer, mowing the grass, and taking care of her houseplants.

Janice helped to support the family by working as a teller and bookkeeper for the First Bank and Trust and later at Citizens Bank. She was the fastest one there. She was also Senior Secretary for the Civil Engineering Department at Texas A&M University for many years. An Aggie through and through, Janice often made lunches for students who did not have enough money for lunch. She loved the students in the Civil Engineering department and made a cupcake for each graduate in the department every year. She knew them all by name. She was proud of her Aggies and enjoyed attending Aggie Football games and all other Aggie sporting events. Janice was such a beloved part of A&M that the 1993 Fish Camp Daniels was named after her. She enjoyed life and was always smiling and singing. Janice was filled with joy. She was also known for her hugs.

Janice is reunited in death with her beloved husband Milton. She leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law Kevin Milton and Becky Daniels, her daughter Donna Gail Hancock, and her grandchildren Robert Thomas Hancock Jr., Brian Allen Hancock, Matthew Kevin Daniels, Jennifer Hope Hancock, Marcus Benjamin Hancock, and Madison Gail Hancock. She will be dearly missed.

To honor Janice’s life, a Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan. Rev. C. McAllister “MAC” Vaughn, C.E.O. and Co-Founder WHEELS Ministry Services, and a long time family friend will officiate.
