James R. Penny, 69, passed away on November 6, 2018 at CHI St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, Texas.

He was born in Dallas, Texas to Virgil Penny and Theda Bell (Brashear) Penny. Following high school, James served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War. James married Karen Witherspoon (1968-1978) and had three daughters. He married Millie “his angel” in 1995 and had two more daughters. They were married for 22 years.

James had a heart of gold and became the best grandfather in the world. He may have lived a humble life, but with the love he shared with his family and with the faith that he gained, he was the richest man in the world.

James was preceded in death by his dad Virgil. Survivors include his wife Millie Penny; sister Kathleen Marx and husband Butch; brother Ronnie Penny and wife Glenda; five daughters: Teressa Lynn Patrick of Kaufman, Texas, Susan De’Lee Beavers and husband Charlie of Kempner, Texas, Jamie Renee Gwaltney and husband Michael of Carrolton, Texas, Amanda Michell VanOrmer of Bryan, Texas, and Rebecca Ann Sikes and husband Mark of Bryan, Texas; ten grandchildren: Amber and husband Jeff, Jesse Wayne, Trevor, Joe, Brandon, Jaidyn, Lacey, Samantha, Chance, and Blake all of whom he loved and cherished very much.

Memorial service for James will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2018 at the Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan; 2301 East 29th Street.
