Florence was born on February 5, 1920 to Thomas Lee Stinson and Florence “Flossie” Jane Almond Stinson in Lynchburg, Virginia. She was married to Egbert Philip Epperson in 1950 and widowed in 2001. Florence was a longtime resident of Houston, Texas, where she lived for 65 years. She moved to St. Joseph Manor in Bryan, Texas in 2016.

Florence was a faithful member of St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Solitaries and VIP’s at St. Stephen’s. Early on, she showed a true passion for volunteering and was a nurse volunteer during World War II. She cherished receiving a plaque and letter of recognition by President George W. Bush thanking her for her 5000 plus hours of volunteering. Florence was an active parent involved in her daughter’s life and teenage years. She spent many hours chaperoning weekly dances and other outings. Florence, known to the youngsters as Miz. Epp, has maintained a close relationship with many of those young people for more than 50 years. Her life is a testament to the fact she loved her family, her friends and her church.
