Emilio Rocha Lopez from Bryan, TX, went to heaven to be with our Lord on June 12, 2017. He was born in Bryan, Texas, on August 24, 1931, to Antonio and Maria de la Luz Lopez. Emilio was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Gloria, on March 30, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
Emilio is survived by 3 brothers, Valentin, Antonio and Jose Luis Lopez; and 2 sisters, Olga Morales and Rosalinda Chapa; his daughter Dora Galvan and her husband David, from Austin, TX; his son Emilio Lopez, Jr. and his wife Mary Ann from Bryan, TX; his son Roy Edward Lopez and his wife, Mayela, from College Station, TX; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Emilio moved his family from Monterrey, Mexico to Bryan in 1955. In 1972, Emilio and Gloria realized a life-long dream of owning a business when they opened the West 25th Laundry and Dry Cleaners in Bryan. In 2016, Emilio was honored by being awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bryan/College Station Hispanic Forum for his entrepreneurship and outstanding contribution to the Bryan/College Station Community.
Emilio was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. When he wasn’t working and spending time with his family, he enjoyed watching telenovelas and Mexican soccer. Emilio was one of the founders of the annual Fiestas Patrias which has provided college scholarships to Brazos Valley graduates for the past 27 years.
Emilio’s Visitation will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 5-8 PM with a Rosary at 7 PM at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 17, 12 Noon at Santa Teresa Catholic Church, 1212 Lucky Street in Bryan. Burial will follow at Rest-Ever Memorial Park.
