Edwin “Ed” Franklin Gayle Latta

Edwin “Ed” Franklin Gayle Latta passed from this life May 10, 2017. Ed was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana on November 24, 1940. He attended Beaumont High School before leaving for college at Texas A&M University. It was while attending college that he met his loving future wife, Emily Eloise Guidry. While attending Texas A&M, Ed was a member of the Texas A&M Fighting Texas Aggie Band and Corps of Cadets. Ed graduated from Texas A&M in 1962 with a dual major degree in both Journalism and Wildlife Biology. After leaving A&M, Ed served in the United States Army in the Transportation Division. It was also during his time in the army that he married the true love of his life, Eloise Guidry.

After serving in the US Army, Ed spent his working career in various positions including working for the Texas Industrial Commission, a personal Real Estate Company, and as the Economic Developer for several cities including Bryan, Texas and Brownwood, Texas. After a long and illustrious career, Ed settled into the thing that he truly loved, managing his ranch in Franklin, Texas. It was there that he spent the remainder of his life, enjoying the things he loved most – hunting, fishing, and working his cattle.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Wardia and Steven Latta; his wife, Emily Eloise Latta; a daughter, Kimberly Eloise Latta; and a sister, Dorothy Castleberry Kiefer.

Ed is survived by his only living daughter, Elyshea Gayle Snell (William Snell); four granddaughters, Ashlee Snell, Meghan Snell, Trinity Snell, and Brielle Snell, all of Iola, Texas; a brother, John Latta (Carol) of Mansfield, Texas; three sisters, Jane Leger of China, Texas, Evelyn Gerber (John) of Beaumont, and Edith Neal (Bart) of Kenner, Louisiana. He also leaves behind a large number of loving nieces and nephews who referred to him as “Uncle Teddy” as well as numerous friends by whom he will be sorely missed.

A Celebration honoring Ed’s life will begin with a visitation on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Beaumont with graveside services and Final Military Honors to follow at Forest Lawn memorial Park in Beaumont.
