Dora Louise Whiteley

Dora Barsch Whiteley was born at home in Calf Creek TX on 22 March
1929. She was the second daughter of Erdmann Seatman Barsch and Amy
Irena Chesser Barsch. Her father was in charge of running a ranch
and farming the land. She went to school at Calf Creek with older
sister, Edna, and in time her younger sisters Nellie, Frieda, and
Anna Ray. Dora later moved to Lohn, TX where her parents continued
farming. She graduated from Lohn High School and her small class
group has remained close to this day. At age 18 she moved to Brady
and started working in the Brady National Bank. She advanced in
positions and changed to the Commercial National Bank in Brady. On
04 July 1951 she married Thomas Edward Whiteley from Voca, TX. She
followed him to Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos, where he
was on a track and basketball scholarship. After Ed's graduation in
1952, they moved back to Lohn where Ed secured a coaching and
teaching job. They welcomed their first child, Paula Ann while at
Lohn and they moved back to Brady where Ed accepted a coaching and
math teaching position. Two years later they added a son Kenneth
Wade to their family. Dora continued working in banks until she
retired in 1990. Ed's career led him to serve as Brady High
principal from 1966 to 1974, then to O'brien, TX as school
superintendent and to Claude, TX 4 years later as school
superintendent. Dora loved her years in the banks and faithfully
attended Ed's games and Ken's games as well.

After retirement, Dora became proficient at all types of needlework
and family history. These were quiet hobbies she could enjoy while
nursing Ed through a long illness that required a liver transplant
and long hospital stays. While Ed was in the hospital, Dora was a
bright spot for the families of other patients. Dora's gift of
compassion, encouragement, and an infectious smile and giggle made
her life-long friends everywhere life took her. Dora had a very
strong relationship with God. She taught many a Sunday School class,
fed many visitors and preachers, looked after many elderly neighbors,
and made sure that she gave God the glory for her every action. Dora
and Ed moved to Bryan TX to be nearer to Paula for help with Ed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Otto Barsch and Bud Barsch; two sisters: Ann Ray Barsch, Nelli Barsch Kidd and husband Ed Whiteley. Survivors include son: Kenneth Wade and his wife Missy Whiteley of Adkins, TX, daughter: Paula Whiteley Bernard and her husband Bernie of College Station; three grand- children: Amy McBroom Landry of Bryan, Tiffany Whiteley and her husband Chad Blaylock of Houston, Austin McBroom and his wife Annie of Austin; and five great grandchildren: Lauryn Fay Landry, Cody LeeLandry, Hayes McBroom, Sloan McBroom, and Sutton Blaylock; sisters: Edna Kasper and husband Rubin of Dublin, and Frieda Chew of San Angelo.
