Daisy Marie Smith
February 25, 1927 to June 7, 2017

Daisy Marie Smith of Bryan, Texas left this world to be with her Lord and Savior June 7, 2017.   Daisy was born February 25, 1927 to John Jackson Wells and Plummer Loraine Varner in Abilene, Texas. Her childhood was spent in Garza County working on her parent’s farm along with her seven siblings. Although her family was not wealthy, they had something much more valuable; they had the bond that most families will never know or experience. The time spent on the farm brought them together and taught them to love in ways most family never had the opportunity to know.

In Daisy’s teen years she began working in a café as a waitress where she met Oran Weldon Smith “Slim”. Weldon was a tall drink of water, and it was love at first sight. They were married June 15, 1945 and for 29 years the two shared a beautiful and blessed marriage until Weldon’s passing May 24, 1974.

Daisy experienced many trials in life, one such being the tragic loss of her 11 year old son Bobby. Though it all, Daisy never lost her faith, she maintained her relationship with Christ and set an example for her 4 other children. Daisy was very involved in her church; she loved her position as a Baptist Sunday school teacher and being an active member of Highway Baptist Church in Huntington, Texas. Daisy’s greatest joy was her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her more happiness than to be surrounded by her family and those she loved most.
Daisy is preceded in death by her parents, 12 siblings, her son, Bobby Jack Smith, husband, Weldon Smith, grandson, Weldon Leon Tennison, Raymond Smith, great grandson, Colt Walker Catalina and bluegrass partner Leroy Patterson. She leaves behind one sister, Opal Carmichael of Lincoln, Nebraska, her son Weldon Joe Smith and wife Rachel of Huntington, TX, daughter Daisy Marie Oehler and husband Dennis of Llano, daughter Susie Catalina and husband John of College Station, daughter, Kim Underhill and husband Larry of Mesquite and 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A time for family to receive friends will be from 6 to 8PM on June 9, 2017 at Hillier Funeral Home. A celebration of Life will be held at 11AM on June 10, 2017 at Hillier Funeral Home, in Bryan with Clinton Everitt officiating.  Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at 3PM.
