Captain Bob Conner

Robert “Bob” L. Conner, 80, of Lake Jackson, Texas, went to be with his Lord on April 25, 2017. A Memorial Service to honor Bob’s life will be held Monday, May 1, 2017, at 2:00PM at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan with internment to follow at Bryan City Cemetery.
Bob was born on January 25, 1937 in Memphis and adopted by Calvin and Leora Conner. After graduating high school in Memphis, Bob enlisted in the Marines.
After leaving the marine corps Bob went to work for a major Loan Company in Virginia that eventually took his family to North Carolina. This led him to open a chain of Business Schools with a friend in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. He and his family landed in Texas where they decided to stay. Bob worked in the furniture business for some years, where he met Muhammad Ali, while studying for his marine Captains license that enabled him to be master of the fishing boat "Judy Beth". After realizing his love for boating and fishing knowledge, Bob chose to spend the rest of his working life as a fishing boat captain. Later he did receive his 100 Ton Captin’s License. One notable highlight of his career was as captain of the Port Sam Houston Tour Boat. In his leisure time, Bob’s hobbies included racing motorcycles, and he especially loved to race his 1971 Yamaha 360 Enduro on flat tracks around Houston. Bob enjoyed sharing his story about his contributions with building a flat track in Southwest Houston.
During his retirement, a new hobby developed with remote control airplanes. Bob enjoyed building and flying these planes and gained a valuable reputation for building and repairing planes for his friends.
Bob also loved his travels with his wife, Judy, around the country, especially their annual trip to Wyoming to visit the in-laws.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, and joins his wife of 35 years, Judy who passed away two months ago. He leaves behind his son, Jay Conner and wife, Marsha; four step-children, Butch, Paula, Nancy, and Theresa; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many loving family members.
