Dr. Barbara L. Pearson

“Education is the one thing that cannot be taken away from you.”

Dr. Barbara L. Pearson, 75, of College Station, died Monday, May 29, 2017, at Scott & White Hospital in College Station. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, community leader, educator, volunteer, servant and friend.

Dr. Pearson was born in Bakersfield, CA. She was a daughter of Homer and Verna Blythe. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

Dr. Pearson graduated from North Texas State University in 1965 and received her Masters and Ph.D. in History from Texas A&M University in 1970 and 1977. She remained in College Station to teach and ultimately became the Vice President and Dean of Blinn College in Bryan where she retired in 2009.  Dr. Pearson was actively involved in the community including service on the Board of Directors for St. Joseph Hospital Foundation and Wells Fargo Bank as well as a member of Rotary, League of Women Voters, and Phi Theta Kappa. She will always be remembered as a strong and caring community leader and mentor, yet also missed greatly by those who loved her most as a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother always enjoying family time and dancing.

She married Alec “Phil” Pearson in November of 1981 with whom she will be laid to rest. She is survived by her four children, Leslie LeUnes Stiteler of Cypress, Natalie LeUnes Allen of College Station, Christopher Chay LeUnes of Cypress, Amy LeUnes Norland of Spring, 8 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Chay LeUnes, Jeff Allen, Craig Stiteler, Kyle Norland, Dylan Stiteler, Blake Stiteler, Jack LeUnes and Julian LeUnes

A visitation will take place from 5:30 – 8 PM on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station. Following a private family graveside service, a Life Celebration service officiated by Rev. Jerry House Jr. will begin at 1 PM on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station followed by a Celebration Reception.
