Anita Christie Donaho, age 95, of College Station, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017.
Anita was born on April 8, 1922 to Andrew and Sallie Slade in Corsicana, Texas. She graduated form Corsicana High School in May 1939 and immediately began her career as a secretary, working as secretary to the superintendent of Corsicana High School. She went on to work for several companies during her lifetime. She worked for J.M. Dryer Department Store working the cash register and taking dictation for the owner. She later worked for seventeen years for Bethlehem Steel Corporation typing defense contracts. Anita worked for the Wheelock Oil Company for the next seventeen years as secretary to the plant manager. Because Anita was very passionate about everything she was asked to do, she attended SMU in Dallas and received a Certificate for Secretary Exam. She was part of the only 7% who pass all six parts to the test on her first attempt.
Anita moved to College Station and met her husband Jean Donaho. He proposed after a very short courtship and the two were married on February 14, 1982.
Anita was loved by all who knew her and was willing to help anyone in need. She was very devoted to her parents during their lifetime, and after their passing cared deeply for family and friends. Anita served as President of the OPAS Guild at Texas A&M from 1986-1987 and gave her time to help with the Brazos Animal Shelter. She was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in College Station.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Sallie Slade, and by her husband Jean Donaho. She is survived by her step-son Brazos Donaho, step-grandson Bob Gates, cousin Kathy Pillans of Corsicana, cousin Mary Ann Rich of Denton, her long-time caregiver and friend Pauline Taplin, and a host of other close friends.
A visitation for Anita will be held from 10 AM until noon on Monday, August 14, 2017 with a service to follow immediately at Noon at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are asked to be made in Anita’s name to Bryan Animal Shelter at 2207 Finfeather Road Bryan, TX 77801.
