Emilie Pittman-Shipley: Peace to Jim Bob's family. I remember him from school. He was always one of the "good guys" and treated everyone the same whether you were one of the people he hung out with or just someone he saw in the halls between classes. I remember one time after Indianette practice I was super tired & had to walk home that day. I don't remember why I had to walk that day, I just remember that I did. Jim Bob was leaving football practice & saw me walking. I didn't even realize he knew my name. He stopped, called me by name & offered me a ride home so I wouldn't have to walk. I never forgot. He truly was one of the "good guys". My prayers to his family that the Lord will give them peace. - Emilie Pittman-Shipley

Robin Copeland Rodwell: I grew up across the street from Jim Bob. I remember playing with army guys and G.I. Joe's in the lush landscaping of the Helduser's backyard. They always had the prettiest yard on the street thanks to Jim and her "green thumb." There weren't very many boys on our street, so Jim Bob would hang out with the Copeland girls. I remember once when he thought he was getting pretty strong and challenged my dad to an arm wrestling match. They got all set up, hands firmly locked and began. Jim Bob was trying with all his might, arm straining, face red; and my dad calmly said "anytime you're ready Jim Bob." They both dissolved into laughter.
We always kept up with Jim Bob through him mom when we would visit Groves, but I'm sorry we weren't able to know him as an adult. The tributes of those who did are so touching, and I am not surprised that he turned out to be a wonderful person.
I am praying for God's peace and strength for his family during this difficult time.

Julie Elkins: I did not know Coach Helduser personally. My son Ryan was on the 2009 Viking football team. He was one of Coach Helduser's O'line. He was a great inspiration to us. My husband sent him an email through the season to thank him for being their for the kids when we knew he felt so bad. Coach Helduser responded with this "Thanks Lee for your kind words. Beyond football, I am hopeful in some way that I am demonstrating to our young men some of the life lessons that this great game has the ability to teach. Working with Ryan and the rest of the guys is a true joy and blessing in my life." I was amazed that in his sickness he was thinking of the boys and wanted to continue teaching them. He was awesome! We are so thankful that Ryan had the opportunity to be coached by him. My sympathy to the family you have suffered a great loss but such a wonderful blessing to have had him in your family. Julie and Lee Elkins.
