David Knighton

Robert “David” Knighton, Jr., age 53, of College Station, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 5, 2012.  Visitation will be Sunday, July 8, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be  July 9, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Hillier Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at College Station Memorial Cemetery.  Hillier Funeral Home is entrusted to his care.

David was born June 28, 1959 in Port Arthur, Texas, to Robert and JoAnn (Sartin) Knighton. The family moved to the Houston area and later settled in Livingston, where David held state records in high jump, discus, shot put, basketball, football and received All American status while in high school. David was highly recruited by universities nation-wide in football and basketball.  He accepted a full scholarship with the University of Baylor under Coach Grant Teaff.

David married his high school sweetheart and recently celebrated thirty-three happy years of marriage.  He was an ordained minister and was passionate about sharing his faith.  He moved his family to Miami, Florida in the early nineteen-eighties to assist in establishing a church.  He was currently working on a Theology degree, which his liver failure prevented him from completing.  He recently published a book, “Follow – A True Story” which shares true-to-life experiences as a Christian to inspire and encourage others.  He was a featured guest on Atlanta Live, a Christian television station.

Over the past four years, David relied on his faith in Jesus, his positive attitude and humor to help him battle multiple cancers and ultimately, liver failure.  He was a devoted husband, father and Grandpa.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy of College Station; his sons, Jeremy Knighton of Bryan, and Joshua Knighton of Willis; his granddaughters, Sophia and Isabella Knighton of Franklin; his mother, JoAnn Taylor and her husband Marvin of Edge; his brothers, Danny Knighton and wife Pam of Livingston, and Daryl Knighton and wife Tracy of Bryan; his mother and father-in-law, Imogene and RB Lollar of Goodrich; brother-in-law, Danny Lollar of Goodrich; sister-in-law, Guynne and husband Kenneth Dillon of Livingston; and his nieces and nephews, Mitchell, Megan, D.J., Blayke, Amber, Hannah, Jeff and Keith.

David was preceded in death by his father, Robert David Knighton, Sr.
